What is Reiki?

Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy.

“The true purpose of Reiki is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities humans are endowed with since birth.”

- excerpt from the translation on a monument
to Mikao Usui at the Seihoji temple in Tokyo.

The Usui system of Reiki was discoverd in the mid 1800’s by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese teacher of a Christian School in Kyoto, Japan. It is said that through study, research and meditation, Dr Usui had an experience of empowerment that lead to the development of Reiki as a healing system.  Usui devoted the rest of his life to practising and teaching this gentle art of healing and worked extensively with healing the beggars and lepers.

Reiki is a non invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing.

Reiki energy is channelled by the practitioner during a treatment to the client and enhances the body’s natural healing ability and promotes wellbeing.

Reiki can be used alone as a modality and can also be safely used to support and enhance both orthodox and natural therapies.   Reiki is becoming more widely accepted in health and community care facilities, including hospitals, hospices and cancer support units.

Reiki can assist with healing and releasing painful memories or emotions that have been stored in the body over time. It is the suppression of these emotions that in turn can lead to stress, anxiety and dis ease.

Reiki massages can encourage restful sleeping, stress reduction, pain relief, and relief from sickness and injury.  Reiki energy can be used safely on people young and old, pregnant mothers, newborns, animals, plants and to enhance the nutritional benefits of our food and water.

Children respond positively to Reiki energy and it has been proven that children with behavioural disorders, hyperactivity or anxiousness, become more relaxed, easier to manage and happier within themselves.

Regular Reiki massages leads to greater clarity and focus and clients report an immediate uplifting of spirits and increased well being.

Becoming a Reiki practitioner allows you total and constant access to this gentle and beautiful Reiki energy, allowing you to heal yourself and others with love.
